my 1950 Chevy Styleline

Good Afternoon,
I bought a 4 door 1950 Styleline Deluxe off ebay some time ago without an engine or trans. Currently it has a 350, a th400, a 10 bolt rear end with new suspension, frame mounted power brakes and a disk brake swap up front. The engine came out of a 1977 El Camino. My question is could I interchange the distributor cap with a Vortec cap?

a Vortec cap? Not sure what that is? Do you mean and HEI cap? If so, no. You can switch to an HEI distributor, though, and that would be a good idea, if you don't have one already. I'm old, and can't remember if 77 Chevy's had point or HEI distributors.

My '77 Nova had the HEI from the factory...

Per Wikipedia: It was used on all engines in 1975 through the mid-1980s.

I too have never heard of a "Vortec" cap? Perhaps it means one of these?

I am doubting that the vortec style will fit... but they make a crossfire cap for your HEI.... more data here: http://www.crossfiredistributorcaps....or-Cap-p1.html

Agree. Vortec ignition parts will not swap over to an older style HEI.
