57 Chevy 6400 4x4 conversion

Here is my latest project. A 57 Chevy 6400. I got this truck from a nice older guy in ND. The truck originally had a 261 six with a sm420 transmission with a 2 speed rear axle. The wheels were 22.5" on the front and 20" in the rear.
I replaced the engine with a 454 mated to a sm465 with a 205 tansfercase. I also installed a advance adapters torque splitter in the front. I found more 22.5 wheels to keep them all the same. I put 9r 22.5 rubber on it.
For the axles, I used a Dana 60 up front and a Dana 70hd in the rear. Because the bolt patterns didn't match the old 6 lug pattern, I contacted Motor sport tech in Sparks NV to make adapters. All I can say is that I'm impressed. I have a lot of things to get done on it like brake lines, fuel lines and wiring. I'm hoping to have it drivable before winter.

That's going to be some kind of a great project... keep the pictures coming..
I have a lot of old trucks sitting in the farm fields around here. I know where a clean Chevy
is and I believe it will still run. But, Too many things going on right now to even think about it.

Nice project. The cab looks to be in fine shape. What are your plans when it's running? Rollback?

Re: 57 Chevy 6400 4x4 conversion

I have a 68 Chevy k10 that I use as a daily driver. I have pulled a lot of heavy loads with it from North Dakota to Washington, and even North Carolina to Washington. I plan on making it my new driver and trailer puller. Even haul some dirt to my place as well. I thought about a roll back before I went the 4x4 route. This truck should be a lot more convenient to use with the power disc brakes on both axles and the EFI 454 plus overdrive. The only bad thing I believe will be the ride, since it still has the stock suspension.
Here is my 68 work horse.

Also the cab has a little cancer in the passenger door skin and cab corners. The worst spot is hard to see in the picture, that is above the windshield. Mice made a nest there and it needs fixing. Otherwise over all pretty good shape. I don't think it saw much winter use.

The one pick you're pulling two trailers, Must be in Nevada. One of the few states I know that allows this.?
I like the plate on the 57.

North Dakota, Montana, Idaho, and Oregon as well. This was taken in Montana. Took it over some pretty steep mountain passes. I got a few looks form other motorist as you can imagine. The old girl did well for me.

Homesteak outside of Butte MT and the one before bozman. Broke the trailers apart on the edge of Idaho and a friend pulled on the rest of the way. Had to do for Washington anyway.
