Hey Royo,
The wheels on the crew cab are they A.R. TT2, or different. I have been looking for just that style but I am not sure I like the torque thrust II style. I have been gravitating towards the Vintage Wheel Works with their options and media blasted center.

Here’s a bunch of trucks we’ve photographed locally. We must live in the old truck capitol since there are quite a few within a few minutes of the house, although not many are in tip top condition. There’s a real nice yellow panel truck with chrome wheels running around but I haven’t been able to get a photo of that one yet. My wife recently took a picture of a 60-66 with a mustache painted on the hood, but the picture was so bad it was unusable. We also took a shot of a 64-66 GMC shortbed with a chrome flat bar grille under the GMC grille, but the phone ate the picture before it could be downloaded. Anyhow, here’s what we’ve found so far:

I`ll have to spend some time gathering pics from local area, the one neighbor from down the street, Roy bought his `63 new, used to tow his rail to the local strip with it. He and his brother built the Glass Slipper back in `56 or 58 not sure now.

This is one of my favorites from back in the 80’s. It was a former show truck with the 73+ bed and almost everything detachable was chromed. It belonged to the guy that owned the local barber shop, and was much more beautiful than the image in this very old photo:

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/5092/showtruck01.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/220/showtruck01.jpg/)

And here are photos of various trucks taken at local car shows over the last decade:

Another get together

The 7th truck down almost looks like a yellow and white GMC Suburban, which is exactly what I would like to get again someday. Looks like a V6 emblem on the side of the hood to hint it's a GMC, maybe a '62 or 63?? I would want a 60, but if an old beater came up, it would be hard to be picky!

Ok all this purdy stuff is cool but it's time for a beater!!!---LOL
I got this '62 GMC K2500 in '06 in a horse trade. It ran a heck of a lot better than it looks,(of course that wouldn't take much!-LOL), the ol' 305 purred like a kitten. Brakes, transfer case, tranny, worked perfectly.
Unfortunately a situation with my Mom came up in 2007 and I sold it to a guy that had wanted it for almost a year to help her out. Wish I still had it!

This is the truck I referred to in that post. The only picture of it anywhere in the family. My folks bought it new in late '59 or early '60. That's my Mom, Christmas Day, 1963.

A few more for the 60-66 trucks!
First 2 are of a '62 Chevy Suburban that a co-worker has had for many years. A year or so ago he sold it to one of his sons, but it is still at Dad's house. Nice driving and running ride. Incidentally he is the same guy I got the '62 and the '55 GMC's from.

The other pics are a few I found on my computer, that were floating around out there in cyberspace.

That '62 4x4 looks so tough. It's just daring you to work it like a BOSS! Some people have no attachment to vehicles and they can buy and sell for literal reasons. You and I and many others get attached and they become part of our lives, like a pet. You sold it for a noble reason though. Can't feel bad about that.

I don't know where you find these pics, but the train one is unbelievable. I love trains by the way. It's like a kick to the gut because you know 95% of those are in a grave. Great pics.

Thanks, Tim. Only had that one about a year but still hated to drive it up on a trailer for the buyer, never to be seen again! I do get attatched to trucks easily. I suppose it's because 2 of 'em have been in the family for 30 or more years. Dang, I have only owned the '55 for about 2-1/2 years and there ain't no way I could part with the ol' pile!

That railroad pic probably was found off of that "big city" site but I don't remember for sure. I think it was captioned as Mt. Shasta being the background.

I dig railroading too as it was probably the second most important part of Black Hills history!

A few pics from a show today, the first is Mikes `65 long bed, it was his dad`s almost done still needs interior door panels, side windows and bed, he runs a FI targetmaster 350/7004r/373 with new GM factory air unit robbed from a S10...

The second pic was Dan`s white`65, original white and red truck, 406 smblk, muncie and 373 gears.

The third was just a neat old 1944 dodge powerwagon, everything on it was stock except the wheels.

The wreck pictures remind me of what happened to me back in 1981. I had a 66 Chevelle (and I have one again) that I had completely gone thru and was very proud of. I was living in Peoria, Il and got transferred to the Chicago area (against my will). The day the movers were coming to bring our stuff to our new home, I decided I'd take my Chevelle to work and not have it in the garage for the movers to damage. I was at a stop light. I was behind a cab. The light turned green. We moved forward. about two blocks later, the cab stopped, and I stopped. The guy in the Buick Regal back behind me was still accelerating, and wasn't paying attention. Hit me so hard, I found pieces from the taillight lenses in the back seat area. Totalled. That's the hard lesson I learned about how to insure classic cars. Took my until 1997 to find a good enough 66 Chevelle to try this again.

Glad to do it GMCDAC. The wife and I traveled to Pomona for the 60th NHRA event in 2010. They had pretty much every vehicle still in existence that was noteworthy "back in the day". It was a good time. If ya would like I can post up some more photos.... it was like we stepped into a time machine.

Since it was from Daytona Beach I am guessing it was the salt in the air combined with high humidity that lead to it's demise. I have some friends who own a condo down there near the beach, they said they had to install stainless door hinges and locks in the condo because the steel ones kept rusting.

I guess I will post a couple of pics of what I think has to be one of the most beautiful purpose built service trucks I have ever seen. It is a 1965 GMC search and rescue truck.
The guy that owns it is Michael "Jolly" Goodfellow of Honeyville, UT. Jolly is the go-to guy for anything GMC V-6 related and has a very extensive website. He recently turned his yahoo forums over to another V-6 enthusiast that has created a normal v-bulletin website all about the 60-66 GMC's powered by the big block V-6. I have been recieving his yahoo group messages for many years. This truck is unrestored.

Grandpa hauled DeKalb Ag seed corn, soy beans from farmers, and ear corn to the Waterman, IL plant. Prior to that, he hauled exclusively for the Del Monte Corp. They hauled bulls for LB Pierce to Cumberland Gap Kentucky as well. Dad drove for Grandpa for years.

Dad's memory is a little foggy. Does anyone know for sure the years of these two trucks? (The two in the previous post.) It appears the older truck could be a '60-'66, and the newer a '68-'72.

Well, Tim, the plant was in Iowa, and they hauled thru Illinois, Iowa and Missouri. They had routes that picked up dead farm animals, went to packing plants and hauled all-fall (guts), and, one load I vividly remember was an overweight (?) load of turkey feathers from a Louis-Rich plant in Iowa City.

Check out the wrap around window over Walter's left shoulder.. that means it is a 60-63. Cool spot lights too! He's standing in front of the side emblems, which further help to identify the exact year.

The newer truck is a '70-72 I believe, based on the grille.

I am envious, hauling stuff for farm folks sounds like a great way to earn a living.

Thanks guys. I asked dad about those mud flaps because he never had that truck in MT. He said a friend of his, a long haul trucker, picked them up for dad. Anyone who knew dad knew how he loved Montana. That same guy ended up in Livingston, MT and had a welding shop until a few years ago. Him and dad still pal around some.

I'm so thankful for these pics. He could tell me about them, but seeing how Grandpa and dad and my uncles were Chevy guys at heart, make me proud to be one too!

We have a rendering plant about ten miles east of us, about a mile east of it they have a new subdivision of million dollar homes on 5 acear ranches, they are all screaming about the stink in the summer, the big hint is check out the area before you buy....the rendering plant has been there sinse the forties....

Bill and Rich,

What's the name of those rendering plants? For 18 years I designed rendering equipment for The Dupps Co. I am betting some of our equipment is in there. Being sent out to evaluate issues with the equipment was always a gnarly experience.

Been there, was back in the early 1990's.

For what it's worth the new "green field" plants that are being built actually have odor control that works very well. Except for the trucks coming and going that is.

As for the smell, my old boss used to say it was the smell of money. :rose:

It was National By-Products. I remember another incident. Early Easter morning. Semi rolled in the median on I-80. Pallets of boxes with hams. When we got there the cops were trying to keep people from stopping and grabbing hams and taking off with them. With a crew of laborers, we loaded, by hand, a semi load of hams, some soaked in diesel fuel, in the cold, and snow, and rain. When we had it all loaded, some Federal inspectors followed us all the way to the plant. We had to dump it and "process" it, so they were sure none of it got saved. On the way back to the plant, had to go over a scale and got fined for overweight, even though we were hauling their load.

How do you change tires on the rear?

Good question Bill,

I'm speculating....

Put it on a lift, remove shocks, springs, driveshaft and then swing the axle down via the trailing arms?

Or, the better way.... a hinged bed.

I bet the front bumper doubles the value of the truck

Back, probably in the early 90's a guy here built a bullet nosed Studebaker with Huge tires on the back. When he had a flat, that's about what they had to do. He said when they built the car, the chassis was all done then the body went on.

I really like the convenience of the rear fender openings on my stepside. My preference for open wheel wells probably goes back to a family incident when I was 10 years old.

The first customized car I ever saw in real life was a 52 Mercury owned by my uncle. He was moving his family from Tennessee to California, and on the trip a rear wheel bearing seized up and set the rear tire on fire. The event was really scary as he had a crippled wife and two little kids to protect in the car while trying to get the fire out. He saved the day, his family and the car, and swore he would never own another car with closed wheel wells. By the time they showed up at our house the rear fenders had been opened up using front fender flares off a similar car. Maroon paint and dark grey primer to a kid was pretty cool.

Not really truck related, but reminds me of why I like practical before stylish.

Here's mine with the snow tires/rally wheels installed. I got so tired of the plain wheels I finally sprung for a set of trim rings:

How about a $600+ GMC truck hood ornament! It's cool, but not that cool

I believe the listing is incorrect... it is circa 1960 - 1961. It matches the "jet age" hood.

Extremely rare and expect it to go higher wether 55-59 or 60-66 GMC. I think John is right though, as I know '55 and '56 are this one, possibly thru '59 as well.

Ok I took the time to get a pic of Greg Mead's beautiful 1960 GMC and cropped the hood ornament. Looks like the epay one John posted to me.

Obviously the folks bidding know what they are looking at.

Neat info Doug? I should have known you'd have some info on that being a GMC fanatic

My understanding is the hood ornament in 60-61 was changed to make the jet inlets oval to closer match the new hood design for 1960. Before that the inlets had vertical louvers like shown on the brochure photo you included above..

That sure could be, John, would fit the big picture better for 1960.
It sold for $786 + shipping.
