Hmmm, I just posted that on Facebook...LOL anyways tired of working on houses, been doing that sinse I got the ok from the doc, between my daughters and ours, painting inside and out, I've laid almost 600 feet of new base boards, removed the old two and a quarter inch and replaced with five inch, cut, painted, installed with pin nail gun, retextured three walls in the daughters house, I'm tired, so we washed the camaro down yesterday, going to take a 300 mile road trip to the mountains..thursday,Tahoe the long way, scenic winding, for lunch then back the other way...

Remember the old flat nosed Jeep FC-150 pickup trucks? When first introduced they had a problem with them pulling a reverse wheelie, standing up on the front bumper during extremely hard panic stops. The Jeep solution? A steel ballast plate mounted between the rear bumper and the bed.
(A buddy of mine has a Jeep FC-150 wrecker... he is a cesspool of knowledge on these things)

Yah, that's short enough for photoshop, anyway.
I remember one of those Jeeps, the Standard Oil station where my Dad did all his business, had one........with a plow on the front! Looked like it wanted to stand on it's nose, standing still. Wasn't long before John, the owner, upgraded to a Jeep pickup truck.......
Well, back then we didn't have one in six people on food stamps, anyway........

I may have a few photos suitable for this thread. Here’s one from either Rod & Custom or Car Craft back around 1961. As best I remember the grille is 1960 Chevy, and the lamps are Oldsmobile. I don't remember the bumper and splash pan:

Two vehicles, remains found in Foss Lake

BREAKING: Law enforcement officials say that the two vehicles just recovered from Foss Lake possibly match the description of two cold cases.

One vehicle, a blue Chevrolet Camaro, matches a vehicle associated with three missing Sayre teens in November of 1970.

It was one of many cars and trucks I whipped up out of scrap wood for my kids to play with (not that they didn't already have too many)! But like me, my son liked taking things apart and “fixing them”. I can’t remember if it had 1 or 2 rear axles, but I’m pretty sure it had 4 (wooden) tires per axle. I can’t tell from the picture if the back of the frame is gone, or if he just took the axles off. Who knows maybe he was using the C-Cab parts to hop up the pedal car!!

Apparently I’ve been neglecting the teenagers in the Universal Set diorama a bit too long during the summer months, so they decided to hold a hot rod party on their own. It’s getting to where we can’t sleep at night. As soon as we doze off the loud music and partying starts up. It’s getting very annoying having to get up every morning and clean up the debris and beer cans thrown all over the place. I may have to relocate some of the troublemakers!

I'm thinkin it looks more like a 41-48 chevy because of the back edge of the front fender, passenger side tail light, and rear bumper. But I suppose it could be a Plymouth just as easily!

It reminds me of a 57 Chevy sedan in the desert outside of Yuma, Arizona back in 1967. It was shot up way beyond salvage or parts recovery, but was at least recognizable as a 57 Chevy!

My favorite are family photos with thier old cars.

I agree.........and I love the pics of the panels above.
I have a picture that my stepbrother e-mailed me years ago of me, my Dad and my 55 Pontiac from about the time I went in to the Army in 1966. Dad's been gone almost 30 years now.

I think that's why I like those old family photo's.
Your dad is captured in time.
You can go back and feel those good memories - helping him stay alive in your memory.
.
Several years back I took reels and reels of our old 8mm family movies from the early 60's and had them converted to dvd.
I haven't watched them for some time now, but they always put a huge smile on my face.
Aaaahh! Grandpa and Gramma. :)
Grandpa and his old 65..... Man I miss my grandpa.....
I need to upload some of those videos to youtube.
I know of two that are so cool for us classic lovers.
One is with my grandpa and my sister and a 57 chevy belair.
Another is my grandpa's 65 4x4 and the grandchildren riding bikes around it.

I actually worked at a place last year that had a "legit" paint booth big enough to drive that rig into and paint it. Not sure though how the roof would be accessed though.

I designed custom paint trailers where we took semi truck front I-beam axle assemblies to make the trailers front and rear axles. The deck of the trailer was about 3 feet wider on both sides than the wheels, and we used 40 ft I beams for the frame.

From back in the day when you didn't have to read the make and model painted onto the car to know what car was being raced...

I found this photo over at Chevy Talk: http://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/309557/

The hard top had a lower roof line than the 150 sedans so better aero. We ran a 150 FI (fuel injected) sedan... in the 57 beach race with Ed Fiola driving and burned a piston the same as Smokey. Those early FI's had a fuel shut off when coasting and this leaned the engine out and would burn a piston. Chevy gave us "aniline" to run in the fuel but it did not help. Towed the car over to Smokey's, put in a new piston, and drove back to Pa.

After the race they were tearing his car down. They had the fuel tank out of the car. He got fed up with them after a while, hopped in the car and drove it on to his trailer, leaving the fuel cell behind.

Yup, he had several gallons worth of fuel line run around under or in the car. LOL He would take a new car out and roll it then rebuild it with the windshield tipped back. He was a master of the rule book.
"By the 1960s, NASCAR builders like Smokey Yunick had come up with ingenious alterations like lightweight wooden roll bars painted to look like steel, frozen springs that dropped the car below legal height as they warmed up, and gas tanks with inflated basketballs hidden inside them. (When the tech inspectors filled the tank to check its capacity, everything looked perfect – then the crew deflated the ball, allowing the tank to hold extra fuel.)"

I could get rid of a few of my Chevy's for one of those, too..........if I could still get in and out of one.

Got your six covered Maverick! I feel the need, the need for speed. That and the need for a Carex Uplift Premium Power Seat Assist (http://www.wayfair.com/Carex-Uplift-Premium-Power-Seat-Assist-PS3017-PS3020-ULF1039.html):giggle:

(Of course we'll need to add a 12V to 120V inverter, but that'll be no problem for a couple old gear head farts like us..)

Gotta be the Lambrecht Auction.... NOS Chevy's no visible dents

I don't know what old man Lambrecht was smokin'.... why didn't he sell 'em instead of letting them sit and rot?

Amazing: http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?Site=CA&Date=20131002&Category=PHOTOS01&ArtNo=100209999&Ref=PH&Profile=1132

No, this is from the Bullock family. With Lambrecht and now Bullock Chevrolet being "discovered", it makes me hope there are other finds in the future.

Bullock Chevrolet was in Grant, NE and has hundreds of vehicles. VanDerBrink Auctions is handling the estate sale.

Here is a YouTube vid. It's 15:00, but the good stuff is near the end. http://youtu.be/SOXVaCPMbl8

Lambrecht was in Nebraska too. I guess I am at a loss as to why the vehicles weren't sold, back in the day?

Thanks for the photo and the link..

There are two more auctions getting ready to go here in the next year both are wrecking yards one in Wendal Idaho, 80 acres of cars to be sold, the same in Oklahoma but not known where yet but both of these wreckers had been closed for the last thirty years, so everything is old stuff...!

Ingenious... the "Vert-A-Pac" , not the OEM version of the Chevrolet Vega

http://gmauthority.com/blog/2013/03/vert-a-pac-train-cars-kept-chevy-vegas-affordable/

Grumpy's Toy X was pretty awesome... his tried to go vertical too, but front end up. That's where the wheelie bars come into play......

The Baldwin Motion folks had their way with Vega's.. Hot Rodders always find a way! http://www.wplr.com/chaz-aj/2014/07/18/ajs-car-of-the-day-1973-baldwin-motion-chevrolet-super-vega-454-v8

Ah, yes.........the Vega............I remember them..........in Illinois in the mid-seventies, these would rust so bad they'd break apart.

The rust belt...

My dad had a '72 C20 he drove it back and forth to work, mostly on state routes, until about '77 and then gave it to my Grandfather. In the early 1980's the trailing arms had rusted so bad that they broke in two. I recall Grandpa driving it prior to that, and on a trip where I went with him I went to put the seat belt on and it pulled right out of the rusty floor.

Road salt... sponsored by the Automotive Manufacturers of America.

I saw this thread over on the Team Camaro website... talk about a dedicated restoration on a truly rusty car. I just love the first gen RS's with the vinyl tops, but that top can lead to serious issues:

I thought it was the humidity, and the road salt just made it worse. I guess you have to be diligent and willing to do the work to keep them clean.

Salt was nasty stuff. I used to hate it that any car I had was rusting by the time I paid it off.

I was from Montana, Idaho and Washington State. I hated the rust as we all do/did! It's OK Bill, we don't have those problems any longer.

Humidity is a big part of it. When they do Quality Assurance corrosion tests on components they use water and salt.... so a humid climate is indeed worse than an arid climate.

They banned salt here in Calif in the mid seventies, they noticed that all the trees in the mtns were dying along the road sides, first they said it was from auto emissions, then finally a lab scientist said you dummies quit using salt....things got greener sense.....LOL Think I need to rescan those pics...

Sweet Camaro, love the vinyl top on these. Did it come from the factory with the hockey stick stripe blending into the front bumper?

yes....! it has been repianted sometime in the seventies, bad paint job, right door really needs to be reskined...other that that absolutely zero rust, we bought it in 1980....trying to get the other camaro pics scanned in....!

Rich,

I guess I should have been more specific, the way the side stripe blends into the front bumper, 1st time I've seen that. Was that factory correct for a SS with an endura bumper?

Yes sir.....you are correct..

Researching how the factory built 1st generation Camaro's, what stock and what is not is something I get a kick out of. My '69 isn't factory correct in many respects, but I like the way it is done.

Kind of like yours. I like the look with the black bumper and the hockey stick stripe matching into the bumper.

I did some research and asked around a bit in regards to the 1969 era D-90 hockey stick stripe over at the Team Camaro website. They are saying the D-90 stripe is supposed to go straight down and not integrate with the bumper, and it is supposed to be open where the "350" or "396" emblems are. Also the endura bumpers were body color.

Interesting stuff to know. I always thought the factory stopping the stripe on the fender, just leaving it open, looks a bit unfinished.

When we bought the car, we had known it was a repaint, original no, that was alright it was all factory correct, we new the people that owned it, it now has 149,000 miles, its getting a little tired, we may rebuild it…..
